Dan Root, Acting President and Co-Vice-President of Membership


 

Dan entered the MIS industry in the early 90s working in Operations at Associated Grocers Data Center located in Seattle/Tukwila and never looked back.  He loved the technology sector for its ability to organize data and form it into useful business information used for making decisions.  Born and raised here in the greater Seattle area, he tried to always work for local companies such as AG, Safeco and now, Community Transit.  He learned early on the importance of data integrity, modeling and maintaining the established structures and processes for those who will one day follow one's work.

Deborah has been a software consultant in the Pacific Northwest since 1981, with clients like the Bonneville Power Administration, Boeing and Microsoft, and most recently for the largest transparently operated private foundation in the world, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  Since 1984, Deborah has served in Standards Administration and is persuasive to the IT staff to create modular, reusable code and maintain qualitative, consistent documentation.  She leads efforts in Enterprise Data Governance toward Data Quality, and evangelizes best practices to add value in Information Management.   Deborah's lifetime pursuits are in Art, Computer Science and Business Administration.


Maria is a Seattle University graduate where she pursued a Business Administration Degree in International Business. During her first contract at Microsoft in 2008, Maria discovered and became quickly attracted to the fascinating world of SQL Server Business Intelligence and data management. Since then, Maria has completed a series of Microsoft technology certifications and she is currently performing a consultant role as Data Analyst at Microsoft. Maria is eager to continue her education in the data management field and she wishes to deepen her experience as a BI developer.  

Joe Oates, Co-Vice-President of Operations and Legal
Elizabeth Pickering, Co-Vice-President of Operations and Legal

  

Joe is an internationally known speaker, author, thought-leader and consultant on data warehousing, database design and object-oriented (OO) development. He has more than 30 years experience in the successful management and technical development of business, real-time, OO and data warehouse applications for industry and government clients. Joe is the primary designer of the Sybase Industry Warehouse Studio data warehouse product, which has been installed all over the world. He served as Director of Data Warehousing for General Motors Corporation. His successful data warehouses include the following industries: banking, health care, credit card, telephone, distribution and life insurance, in the U.S., Asia and the Pacific, South America and Europe, and a Principal Program Manager at Microsoft.


Elizabeth joined Microsoft as a DBA, followed by more than ten years serving in data warehouse and BI areas in development and program management disciplines.  In early 2011, she took an architect role with University of Washington IT, working on the integrated Enterprise Data Warehouse.  Elizabeth is a PMP (Project Management Professional).  She is experienced in metadata driven ETL, data quality enforcement and overall BI solution design and implementation.   She believes that industry standards, best practice and knowledge sharing are keys to a successful BI solution, which DAMA-PS is a perfect vehicle to promote all. Elizabeth holds an MS in Accounting and an MS in Information System.  

Connie Taylor, Vice-President Finance

  

Connie has been managing data from the business side for over 20 years. She has served in various capacities on both sides of the thin line between IT and business, including the last 10 years in software project design, training, implementation, and change management.  Connie has a BS in Forestry, MBA in Finance, and certificates in Software testing and Construction project management, all from the University of Washington.She joined the Board of DAMA last year and would like to continue as VP of Finance.  She brings experience as a Board Member of varied organizations including the Crisis Clinic of Thurston/Mason Counties and Oregon Women for Timber, as well as long active participation in professional societies in the forest products industry.

Martha Carrington, Vice-President Communications

  

Martha Carrington is a successful professional with an attitude of constant learning and development. She has a BA in Business Administration and a Masters in Marketing. Her passion for technology and data management inspired her to complete her recent studies and graduate in Database Information Technology, Business System Analyst and Project Management. Martha has over 10 years of experience in building relationships, financial consulting, business development and marketing. She has worked with big organizations like Johnson and Johnson, Colpatria Financial Group, World Savings and her last employer was Wachovia. Currently, she is volunteering with Edmonds Community College in data and business system analysis. Martha is eager to utilize her professional business, analytical and management experience, along with her most recent education and passion for data, internet and IT to join a dynamic IT Company.

Patricia Gilson, Vice-President Marketing

  

Patricia more than 20 years of IT experience and has been consulting in Business Intelligence since 1997. The various roles she as held in BI are Sr. Data Architect, ETL Specialist, Software Engineer, and Sr. BI BSA working with clients such as Microsoft, Boeing, AT&T, Premera, Ernst & Young, Farmers Insurance and currently at T-Mobile. In these roles she has created team environments with diversified groups consisting of executives from the business units and EIT, individual business users, and development teams with the goal to drive data requirements into meaningful information.

 Deb Weller, Co-Vice-President of Membership

  

Deb has over 20 years of IT experience in the high-tech industry.  She is currently Enterprise Applications Manager at EMC's Isilon Storage Division, but previously served as IT Manager and Data Architect at Aventail Corporation and Systems Analyst at University of Washington Educational Outreach. Her areas of expertise include enterprise application integration, application development and business intelligence. She holds a BA in History and a professional certificate in Data Resource Management from the University of Washington.  In addition, she completed CDMP and CBIP certifications courtesy of the prep class and exam proctoring offered by DAMA-PS, and holds certifications in Force.com Development, BigMachines Administration and Salesforce.com Administration.
