Voting for the 2010-11 DAMA-PS Board begins May 25th and will close June 9th.  All members will have received a ballot e-mailed through SurveyMonkey.  Please feel free to review the bios and interest statements of candidates here.  Please vote!!

Deborah Arline is a Software Consultant in the Pacific Northwest since 1981; with clients like the Bonneville Power Administration in Portland, Oregon, to fortune 500 companies like Boeing and Microsoft; and most recently for the largest transparently operated private foundation in the world, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  Since 1984, Deborah has served in Standards Administration; and is persuasive to the IT staff to create modular, re-usable code; and maintain qualitative, consistent documentation.  She leads efforts in Enterprise Data Governance toward Data Quality, and evangelizes Best Practices to add value in Information Management.   Deborah's life-time pursuits are in Art, Computer Science and Business Administration. Deborah would like to apply her background and skills to assist DAMA-PS in the position of Co-VP Programs and Education and to bring in speakers that meet the interest and needs of the DAMA-PS membership.

Jeffrey Fromm has always wanted to contribute to the growth and future of Data Management Association of Puget Sound. With VP of Marketing he would be able to do that. Those who know him can tell you he is passionate and driven for our DAMA chapter and what our chapter has to offer to the community. His diverse background, outgoing personality, and strong drive make him a great fit for this position.

He graduated from Eastern Washington University with Human Resources and Management Information Systems. Jeffrey has two years BI and six years in IT experience. His current position at Premera Blue Cross as a Data Warehouse & BI Quality Assurance Analyst he has learned the business through the data, works directly with a variety customers and IT professionals, and develops solutions to data quality issues.

Jeffrey brings extensive work background from being raised in family that own businesses to having worked a wide verity job positions. His diverse background allows him to develop creative ideas and solutions. From Information Specialist & Training Coordinator for the Better Business Bureau to Public Relations and Promotions for a Salsa Nightclub Jeffrey has strived to teach, promote, and improve whenever the opportunity has presented it.

Tom Jamieson is the owner of Jamieson Enterprise Consulting LLC, based in Seattle, whose mission is to improve the conversation between the business and IT organizations of the enterprise.  He brings with him a wisdom reflecting 30 years of practical  experience in a number of IT positions at Swedish Medical Center, Washington Natural Gas, and  Microsoft. He has served as a systems analyst, data modeler, and enterprise information architect, participating in many diverse OLTP and data warehousing projects as an individual contributor, team leader, and management advisor.

Tom has built a solid reputation as an original, insightful thinker, unafraid to challenge managers and colleagues alike to reflect on their own experiences and question even the most revered 'best practices' in search of genuine personal and team excellence.

Tom wants to be your next VP of Membership. He believes that the key to understanding the true needs of the data management professional community may lie untapped, close to the surface among those members who have recently joined DAMA and those who have recently quit, for it is they who most visibly are searching for something. They join, hoping to find part of the answer to their question. They leave, having lost hope. In addition, Tom believes that the community is under-represented by the DAMA-PS Chapter.  Six corporate memberships account for half of the current  membership. Some familiar local names have virtually no presence. Tom would find out why and how to turn that around, for the benefit of the membership and  the community. Finally, Tom is concerned about the  90% of the membership who opt out of the monthly meetings. He wants to make sure the Chapter meets their needs as well, and will work with the rest of the Board to bring about
    integrated improvements, in enterprise-fashion.

Dan Root entered the MIS industry in the early 90's working in Operations at Associated Grocers Data Center located in Seattle/Tukwila and never looked back.  He loved the technology sector for its ability to organize data and form it into useful business information used for making decisions.  Born and raised here in the greater Seattle area, he tried to always work for local companies such as AG, Safeco and now, Community Transit (Currently as a Data Program Manager).  He learned early on the importance of data integrity, modeling and maintaining the established structures and processes for those who will one day follow one's work.  He has kept himself updated on the latest methods and technologies through formal education and organizations such as DAMA.  Over the years, he has become a little less technical and more directive and managerial, but "my hands are still very involved in the day-to-day data processes."

Dan would like to contribute his experience and knowledge to the members of DAMA-PS as Co-VP of Communications.  He would like to see the informative and interesting monthly lectures continue and expand so all DAMA members can keep in touch with the latest trends in DATA Management.  His goals are to help increase membership and promote involvement in our organization through timely communication and he looks forward to the opportunity to serve on the Board.

As was previously communicated to our Membership, the DAMA-PS Board of Directors evaluated several web-enabled organization management tools.  We have selected Wild Apricot as our service host and are ready for everyone to check it out.

Here is what you can expect from the new site:

    - An integrated site allows you to find all information about the chapter in one place.
    - DAMA-PS Community Forum will replace Yahoo! Groups for peer-to-peer discussions.
    - Self-maintained member profile allows you to keep your contact information current at all times.
    - Member Directory allows you to reach your colleagues.
    - View your membership status at any time.
    - Automatic renewal notices provide advance warning about membership status.
    - Online payments for memberships and events are processed through PayPal, though offline payments are still an option.
    - Customize your subscription settings to receive the alerts you want.
    - Job postings will be better organized for job and applicant seekers.
    - News feed to keep current on DAMA-PS events and site changes.

Since the Board of Directors is excited about these improvements for our professional community, we are running a contest.  Anyone who updates their profile by February 6 will be entered into a drawing for one of five prizes: 2 dinner meeting vouchers for a DAMA-PS event; and 3 books on data management topics.  Winners will be announced through Wild Apricot and at our dinner meeting on February 11.  If information on your profile is accurate, answer the “How Did you Hear About Us?” question on your profile.  Corporate Members who may have already updated their details are still eligible to win.

We are in the process of repointing out website to Wild Apricot - the transition will be complete in the next few days.  During the transition, you can access the new site by clicking the link to Wild Apricot on our main website (http://www.dama-ps.org).  Your username and password is your email address.  Use the “View Profile” link in the bottom left to look at your details.  If you have difficulty accessing the site, please let me know (membership@dama-ps.org).

Any questions about this service and content on the site can be directed to the Board (board@dama-ps.org).

    Thank you.
