On Reference Models and Reference Architecture: A Business Intelligence Case Study

Please join us for a presentation from Alejandro Miguel, an information architect. He has lead the architecture, information management and built data quality management solutions for large companies Including Microsoft, Merck & Co. Inc., Concur Technologies!

Over the last few years, we have learned a great deal about architecting and designing business intelligence (BI) solutions; however that knowledge wasn’t always easy to find and digest. It is still hard for architects and consultants to design solutions that adhere to proven practices for BI in general. And what makes this even more difficult is the diversity of offerings from existing products and vendors.

This session will talk about building a BI Reference Architecture guide using principles-based guidance that is technology agnostic for helping drive the design of BI solutions, along with technology considerations to assist with key engineering decisions.

Alejandro Miguel is a consultant working as business analyst of a large non-profit organization. He has worked as information architect, has lead the architecture, information management and built data quality management solutions for large companies Including Microsoft, Merck & Co. Inc., Concur Technologies.

Miguel aspires, wherever he goes, into becoming a catalyst for converting data into knowledge and IT opportunities into Business Opportunities; skilled database designer with years of experience in data mining, modeling and implementation. He also thrives to ensure alignment with the business and consistency of delivery for software solutions and architectures; In the past, he has played integral roles in the development of SQL 7.0 and SQL 2000–2005 for Microsoft, and have helped grow the High Performance Compute environment to a more than $4M Cluster with 3,300 Linux servers-cpus for Merck ranked at the time, as one of the world’s top 100 supercomputers. Specialized in driving improvements in systems performance and scalability, with a solid focus on high-performance database engines and applications. In summary, more than 15 years of hands-on experience in all aspects of the software development life cycle backed by in-depth knowledge of development tools and platform architecture.
