The Object-Relational Impedance Mismatch and Its Impact on Information Quality
with Ron Fuller
The object-relational impedance mismatch is a well-understood phenomenon that almost always results in poor database design. The problem is not that databases are difficult to design well, but that writing code against a well-designed database is difficult. Coding against a poorly designed database is much easier -- but as long as the end product meets the business requirement and passes user acceptance testing, it is seen as a success; at least for the time being.
